IRF Mourns the Passing of Rabbi Zalman Nehemiah Goldberg, zt"l

August 20, 2020

The IRF joins with the whole house of Israel in mourning the death of Rabbi Zalman Nehemiah Goldberg zt"l at the age of 88.

Rabbi Goldberg was one of the leading decisors of Jewish law in our generation who served for many years as a member of the Supreme Rabbinical Court in Jerusalem, served as Rosh Yeshiva at a number of Torah institutions across the ideological spectrum of Israeli Orthodoxy and wrote many responsa on cutting edge issues.

He was one of the original authors and rabbinic backers of the Pre-Nuptial Agreement of the Beth Din of America that is widely used in Modern-Orthodox circles. A scion to a distinguished LIthuianian rabbinic family and son in law to the revered Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, he was accepted and turned to for halakhic advice by people from the entire range of the Orthodox community both in Israel and throughout the world. He was an active contributor to the Encyclopedia Talmudit for decades, served for many years on the editorial board and in the last ten years served as its chief editor. He gave rabbinic ordination to hundreds over the course of his career and was accepted in all circles as one of the leading rabbinic authorities.

May his family be comforted by the Almighty among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
