IRF Mourns Prof. Menachem Elon, zt”l and Rabbi Dr. David Hartman, zt”l
February 19, 2013
The International Rabbinic Fellowship notes with sadness the recent passing of Prof. Menachem Elon , former justice of the Israeli Supreme Court, scholar of Jewish law and founder and leading voice in the the field of Mishpat Ivri.
We also note with sadness the recent passing of Rabbi Dr. David Hartman, a leading scholar and Jewish philosopher, prominent communal rabbi prior to his aliyah, founder and builder of the Shalom Hartman Institute and a major thinker and writer on the Israeli religious scene.
The entire Jewish world was stimulated and challenged by the life's work of these two devoted sons of their people who cared deeply about am yisrael and were passionate religious-Zionists on their own terms. Both these thinkers wrote thoughtfully about the nature and future of the State of Israel, Halakha, the Jewish people and their interaction in the modern world.
May their families be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
